Takeaways from Veolia’s 2024 Barometer of Ecological Transformation The existential threat of climate change looms larger than ever before. Rising sea levels, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation are no longer abstract concepts — they are harsh realities unfolding across the globe. As the urgency to address this crisis intensifies, a fundamental question arises: Are we, as a global community, truly ready to embrace the profound changes required to safeguard our planet’s future?

While seems almost unfathomable, climate change goes beyond just water. It extends to , , and even .

Though the prospect of this looming threat is bleak, we aren’t destined for inaction. 91大神is committed to making an ecological transformation that gives us a better future. Our aims to spark innovations that help communities and industries overcome these challenges and create cleaner water through treatment and reuse.

To better understand where the world stands on climate change, we conducted a global survey spanning 26 countries and representing nearly 60% of the world’s population. Using the findings, we created the , a report that delves deep into the public psyche, gauging the global sentiment toward climate change, the motivations driving ecological transformation, and the perceived roles of key stakeholders in facilitating this transition.

Let’s dig into three statistics that stand out from our survey.

66% believe the consequences of climate disruption will be costlier than investments in ecological transformation

This statistic highlights a growing recognition of the immense economic and social costs associated with climate change inaction.

From devastating health impacts and resource scarcity to the escalating frequency of natural disasters, the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly tangible and impossible to ignore. The climate change “the greatest health threat facing humanity,” while the that it could push over 130 million people back into poverty by 2030.

This global awareness of the staggering potential costs of inaction should serve as a powerful driving force for embracing the necessary changes and investments for ecological transformation. As the tangible impacts of climate change continue to mount, the economic and social imperative for decisive action becomes more compelling.

By recognizing that the long-term costs of climate inaction far outweigh the upfront investments in ecological solutions, populations worldwide may be more inclined to support and participate in the comprehensive systemic changes required to mitigate the climate crisis and its cascading effects.

67% are motivated by their and their family’s health

The highest proportion of respondents cite protecting personal health as a prime motivator for embracing the ecological transformation, even if it necessitates behavioral changes or additional costs. Furthermore, 64% are driven by the desire to improve their quality of life, underscoring the intrinsic link between environmental well-being and human welfare.

These numbers reflect the growing awareness of the direct impact of environmental degradation and climate change on human health and overall quality of life. Air pollution, water contamination, food insecurity, and the increased frequency of extreme weather events pose severe threats to our well-being, both physically and psychologically.

Preserving natural landscapes, ensuring cleaner air and water, and mitigating the risks of natural disasters are perceived as tangible quality-of-life benefits that could stem from a successful ecological transformation.

By tapping into these deeply personal motivations, the report highlights a powerful catalyst for driving widespread support and participation in the ecological transition. When individuals can directly connect environmental action to their health, safety, and overall quality of life, the imperative for change becomes more palpable and immediate.

93% see government, business, and individual action as crucial

Our findings showcase the pivotal role that various stakeholders must play in driving the ecological transformation. A whopping 93% of respondents believe governments, businesses, and individuals are indispensable in finding and implementing effective solutions to address climate change and environmental degradation, with local authorities (92%) and international institutions (91%) not far behind.

This statistic highlights the growing recognition that a coordinated, multi-stakeholder approach is essential to tackling the complex and multifaceted challenges posed by the climate crisis. Governments, with their ability to enact policies, regulations, and incentives, are critical catalysts for facilitating the transition. Businesses, with their innovative capacities and economic influence, are crucial drivers of sustainable solutions and practices. International institutions, through their global reach and agenda-setting power, are vital forces in fostering international cooperation and setting common goals.

Moreover, the report emphasizes the need for specific measures from these stakeholders, such as innovating new and less polluting ways of doing things (93%), long-term planning (92%), and explaining the risks and dangers to the climate and the environment to everyone (90%).

The action, collaboration, and shared responsibility of various stakeholders are crucial in addressing one of the greatest challenges of our time. No single entity can shoulder the burden alone. It will take a concerted, coordinated effort from all corners to steer humanity toward a more sustainable future.

While the challenges posed by the climate crisis are daunting, the findings from this edition of the Barometer of Ecological Transformation suggest that the seeds of a global mobilization have taken root. By harnessing this momentum and fostering collaboration across sectors and borders, we can forge a path toward a more sustainable future that protects both our planet and the well-being of its inhabitants.
