LEAPfas Technology for PFAS Treatment

LEAPfas

Veolia's patent pending LEAPfas municipal and industrial vessel technology is designed to address the challenge of reducing PFAS to ultra low levels in product water. The vessel enables users to reduce PFAS to ppt levels and below, using modern innovations in design, operation, and media exchange. With over 50 years’ design, manufacture, and operations expertise, in both feedwater and wastewater solutions

Overview

LEAPfas technology addresses these challenges, including:

  • Achieving ultra-low effluent concentrations.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of surfaces.
  • Removal of media, debris, and deposits from the vessel, without confined space entry.
  • Longevity of surface integrity. No rust/coating perforations.
  • Increasing media percent utilization, and thereby extending media life, at an industry-leading level (patent pending design).

Typical applications include:

Municipal:

  • Municipal Drinking Water. ?PFAS Perfluoroalkyl Substances treatment, including but not limited to PFOS, PFOA, PFHxA, PFNA, PFHpA, and PFBS.
  • Waste or groundwater AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam/Firefighting foam) environmental PFAS treatment
  • Emerging organic and inorganic contaminants treatment and remediation.
  • Removal of Iron, Manganese, Arsenic, Perchlorate, Nitrate, Taste & Odor, Color, DBPs, Natural Organic Matter (NOM), TOC; plus many other contaminants.

Industrial:

  • PFAS – Perfluoroalkyl Substances, including but not limited to PFOS, PFOA, PFHxA, PFNA, PFHpA, HFPO-DA, PFBS
  • Firefighting foam environmental PFAS cleanup
  • Emerging organic and inorganic contaminants removal and remediation
  • Wastewater at Industrial, municipal, refining, military, and other sites
  • Iron, Manganese, Arsenic, Perchlorate, Nitrate, Taste & Odor, Color, Organics, TOC; plus many other contaminants treatment.

Features & Benefits

  • Patents pending - available as a single vessel system; lead lag 2-vessel system; Lead-Mid-Lag 3-vessel system; in series or parallel operation.
  • LEAPfas technology in a single vessel is often satisfactory meeting municipal PFAS targets (drinking water MCLs).
  • Lowest pressure drop possible.
  • Highest media utilization percent (<27 ft3 ‘dead volume’). Savings on typical ten-year lifecycle media costs could reach $150,000-$300,000 per exchanged 12-foot vessel, depending on varying use conditions.
  • Avoid confined space entry for most maintenance & cleaning.
  • Individually removable media screens to facilitate cleaning, and to reduce hideout media, and sticky fouling residue.
  • Internal spray nozzle reaches the entire surface of the vessel.
  • Minimum risk of rust / carbuncles or hard-to-remove, fouling residue.
  • Optimized inlet distributor in 316L stainless steel, avoids channeling? achieves plug flow, and maximizes media life.
  • Long-lasting, chemically inert, rust-resistant Plasite, epoxy or better coating on carbon steel
  • PLC monitoring – pressure drop for each vessel, system flow rate & throughput measurement
  • Remote monitoring and analytics with Veolia’s web-based InSight* platform. Enables labor savings, accurate database/record keeping and predictive diagnostics.

Case Studies

Borough of Bellmawr remediates PFAS ahead of state’s mandated schedule

The Borough of Bellmawr had PFAS types in their wells in the low parts per trillion for PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, among other variants. To address the Borough of Bellmawr’s immediate need, 91大神rapidly deployed a containerized PFAS remediation system which did not require a building, could be placed directly on the ground, and is protected against weather conditions. No exposed tanks were needed. Placement and hookups were rapid and easily accomplished. As a result of opting for Veolia’s temporary “Bridge” solution, city and water treatment officials are able to report to their citizens that they are meeting the prospective MCLs for PFAS ahead of schedule. They also have time to develop the permanent solution without time pressures now that the Bridge solution is in place.

PFAS Treatment in the United States

Many companies are preparing for the future by taking stock of their use and potential release of various PFAS materials, including air emissions. 91大神has answers for our customers whether the original source is from an industrial process, firefighting foam, manufactured via Electrofluorination, or Telomerization, the material is an original PFAS or a so called NEW PFAS material (or a mixture). This paper shares two recently introduced solutions for customers located in the United States.
